Flesh from 40’s

Frame France

肉の40年代

We've introduced Frame France before through our journal. These French-made vintage frames feature rough-textured, unrefined "置き蝶番" (overlapping hinges), celluloid material with a unique luster and color, and temples without a core wire, a characteristic seen only in 1940s models.

Many eyewear enthusiasts find a unique appeal in these details, which strongly reflect the manufacturing context of that era when everything was handmade, a charm not found in modern glasses.

The model we're introducing this time is one of my personal favorites among Frame France glasses. It's a pair in a rose color called "Flesh," featuring coreless temples characteristic of the 40s.

Until now, we haven't had the chance to introduce them because they sold out immediately each time we stocked them. However, we've managed to acquire a substantial quantity just before midsummer, so we are finally ready to present them.

As the name "Flesh" suggests, this rose color evokes a healthy complexion, reminiscent of good blood circulation. Not only does it pair well with the coreless temples unique to the 40s, but it also highlights details like the overlapping hinges and crimped pins, which is another attractive feature.

At first glance, the Flesh rose color might seem flamboyant, but true to its name, it's similar to the color of blood and is actually a remarkably human and skin-friendly color compared to others. This unique balance, being iconic yet not overly individualistic for eyewear, might be one reason why Andy Warhol wore Flesh-colored eyewear.

The five pairs we have this time include three Pantos in different sizes, one Crown Panto, and one Parisian. The material thickness is largely consistent across all of them, offering a streamlined selection where you can simply choose based on your preferred size and shape, with the commonality being 40s Flesh.

The lens I highly recommend is a 25% flat brown. I believe that for the soft impression unique to Flesh, it's best if the lens color isn't too strong. That's why I always put 25% flat brown lenses in all my own pairs.

The clean, clear frame is a summery pair that I'd like to suggest as sunglasses for the upcoming height of summer.

(Top) "Crown Panto" gets its name from the upper half of the front resembling a crown, combined with the Panto shape of the lower half.
(Bottom) "Parisian" is one of the classic Frame France styles, with a unique, versatile shape that seamlessly suits any face.

The skin-friendly rose color of Flesh can be matched with any outfit and doesn't make the glasses themselves too prominent. It's truly a color that eyewear enthusiasts eventually gravitate towards.

The unique coloration achieved with vintage celluloid cannot be replicated by modern brands. To fully appreciate this color, the coreless temples of the 40s are the best detail. While not inexpensive, it's a pair that's well worth it.

Because I personally love them, I stock many, but you'll rarely find a store with so many Flesh frames all at once. We offer them with optimal colored lenses matched to the frames. Please take this opportunity to visit us and discover the charm of Flesh.
