The first thing that catches the eye is the rivet that secures the hinge to the frame body. While the regular collection uses SV925, this model features K18YG. To achieve sufficient strength with K18YG, the part itself was redesigned with a thicker pin compared to those used in the regular collection.
K18YG is also used for the temple end tips. As a component that also helps adjust the weight balance of the eyewear, it goes without saying that K18YG, with its higher specific gravity, is more suitable.
The frame material is deadstock celluloid. Previously, 10 eyevan frames have used deadstock celluloid or celluloid that has been aged for a long period, similar to deadstock.
However, black deadstock is an exceptional rarity. Colors like black are in high demand as a material, making it extremely rare for them to remain as deadstock. It's not a material that can be easily chosen for eyewear. This special black has been assigned a new color product number, different from previous black variations.
Furthermore, while standard 10 eyevan nose pads typically use mother-of-pearl in white, black, or brown, this model features genuine tortoiseshell. Tortoiseshell, one of the highest quality materials for eyewear, boasts unique shading and transparency not found in other materials, and it also has high affinity for the skin when it comes into contact with the body. Regarding the "exhilaration of the material when viewed or touched by hand or skin" that the designer often mentions, there may be no better material.
This model was created primarily because the designer himself desired it, and thus, its availability in stores is limited. Even eyewear stores that carry it often acquire it because the owner personally wants it, rather than just for display.
