The Ultimate Two Points

The flex-strap structure, which involves sandwiching two double leaf springs between the endpiece and the lens, was adopted by American Optical in the 1930s. Rather than simply reproducing this structure, which was featured in American Optical catalogs of the time, EYEVAN 7285 has updated it using titanium, making it suitable for modern times. This is the 140, EYEVAN 7285’s first rimless frame, which we are introducing today.

In many typical rimless frames, the bridge often serves solely to connect the lenses. However, with the 140, an approach was taken to integrate the bridge with the "tsukami" part, which supports the lenses from the side. This creates a sense of profoundness and persuasiveness even within these small components. Furthermore, the intricate patterns on the fine details of the parts are hand-carved into the master molds, resulting in a deep and uniquely tasteful finish that only hand-carving can achieve.

The flex-strap overcomes the biggest weakness of rimless frames, which is that the lens fixation can loosen with use. Because this structure ensures sufficient strength, it is possible to place the temple base at the top of the lens.

Furthermore, like other EYEVAN 7285 models, all other details are uncompromising in both functionality and design.

The nose pads are made of titanium and are fixed by caulking pipe-shaped pillars from behind. This structure not only offers a design advantage by not being overly noticeable when viewed from the front, but also provides a functional benefit: by moving appropriately to fit the bridge of the nose, it allows more people to wear them comfortably.

The temples are thick with a square cross-section near the front, and become thinner with a round cross-section towards the tips, combining both strength and ease of adjustment. Of course, they are not merely functional; the intricate patterns on the sides, characteristic of EYEVAN 7285's high level of ornamentation, are also eye-catching.

Given that it’s hard to imagine a better rimless frame, this is the only completely rimless model that EYEVAN 7285 has released.

I have personally used it for over 5 years, and I believe it is the coolest and most functional rimless frame available. I recently spoke with Mr. Nakagawa, the designer at EYEVAN, and we both agreed that it's hard to find a better rimless frame than this one.

Because it's a model I truly love, I also planned a limited edition model called 155, which featured a modified lens shape, when I worked at EYEVAN. Unlike the Boston shape of the 140, the 155 is characterized by its polygonal shape, and the design team created its lens shape from scratch. At AFTER, you can also order this shape.

The frame is available in three colors, so please try them on at the store. I particularly recommend trying them with flat lenses, as it makes the lenses appear to float and looks incredibly stylish. The appeal of a rimless frame is the lack of visible lenses, but with such a meticulously crafted and impressive frame, intentionally making the lenses prominent will never be overbearing.
