Marwitz by ZEISS, Made in West Germany

Just as Switzerland is synonymous with the watch industry, in the 1970s, Germany was the first country that came to mind when people thought of eyewear. At that time, Marwitz was known for its high quality, alongside Rodenstock.

Among Marwitz's vintage frames, there are models bearing the "ZEISS West Germany" logo. These were produced after Marwitz was acquired by ZEISS and became its frame division, up until the reunification of East and West Germany following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Such "ZEISS West Germany" Marwitz models have arrived in completely deadstock condition.

These frames are characterized by a sense of pride as optical products, born in an era before eyewear became merely a fashion item. The large lens shapes and double bridges reflect the style of the period.

Looking at the finer details, the lowered end piece design is certainly a characteristic German feature. On the other hand, the generous nose bridge width gives them a certain modern appeal that still resonates today.

As we previously introduced with the new EYEVAN 7285 collection, German frames from before the 90s are showing signs of a trend. However, this has been an overlooked area until now, and very few stores specifically curate items with a focus on ZEISS and "West Germany."

We believe that ZEISS and Marwitz, products of Germany's continuous leadership in optics, possess sufficient potential to become the next vintage trend, especially when combined with current fashion. The depth of their history is truly compelling.

As AFTER, a retailer of ZEISS lenses, we are eager to proactively recommend this collection. Please come and see them in store.
