Various lens shapes such as oval, Boston, Wellington, and crown panto have existed for over half a century. Similar to these classics, there are forgotten shapes that are completely unseen today. Among the 2025AW EYEVAN 7285 collection, the barrel shape of the 1009 is a particularly striking new proposal.
Even if it's unfamiliar, the barrel shape, with its combination of straight lines and curves, is a remarkably well-balanced lens shape. This undeniably classic shape has been reinterpreted and reborn with a modern, sharp aesthetic, an approach truly characteristic of EYEVAN 7285.
Furthermore, not only are two lens sizes, 45 and 48, available, but each is treated as a separate model, with different temple designs for each model. The temples of the model that has arrived feature a design sampled from roof tiles, specifically stone roof tiles discovered by Sōetsu Yanagi.
As for a lens shape that proposed a new industry standard, the 197, which sold out almost immediately after its release in 2024SS, comes to mind. At the time of the 197's release, the oval shape had not yet gained widespread acceptance. However, as anyone who loves eyewear would have noticed, various brands are now offering oval shapes this year.
This is a truly unique piece that proposes an entirely new category.
It features original "Eyevan Curve Lenses," Japanese-made glass lenses created by blending metal particles and other components to achieve specific color tones, then molding each lens individually after melting.
