Among the many vintage Rolex watches, the hand-wound Daytona remains in a class of its own. When it was first released, it was not a popular model and sat in the corner of display cases for a long time. Those who remember that period of neglect will undoubtedly feel a quiet sense of emotion at the high regard in which this watch is now held.

We are introducing the Ref. 6265/8. As indicated by the "/8" at the end of the model number, this is a solid gold model crafted from 18K yellow gold for both its case and bezel. The 6265 was one of the earliest Daytonas to feature screw-down pushers for enhanced water resistance, and the tachymeter bezel engraved in the same material gives it a refined look that differs from the acrylic bezel of the 6263. At its heart is the legendary hand-wound Cal. 727 movement. This watch belongs to the final generation of "hand-wound Daytonas," neither quartz nor automatic. As a solid gold piece, it received COSC certification, and the dial bears the subtle yet definitive two lines of "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified," which are not found on steel models.

The sharp lugs show no signs of polishing, and the 18K engraving is visible on their underside. The solid bezel, made of the same material as the case, conveys a substantial presence that the acrylic bezel of the 6263 lacks.

The star of the show this time is the champagne-colored dial. While not always a highly-rated color scheme in the past, its value is being re-evaluated with the rising price of gold. Furthermore, with a slight increase in people who enjoy watches as part of fashion, not bound by traditional collector values, it has recently been attracting quiet attention once again. The warm golden background is contrasted by sharp black sub-dials. This contrast gives the entire watch a strong core, ensuring that despite being solid gold, it never appears overly sweet—personally, it's one of the most beautiful combinations I've seen.

And ultimately, the true value of a Daytona is determined by the "individual piece."

This particular piece was manufactured in 1982. It is an excellent example where all the details align, featuring grooveless MK2 pushers and an MK2 bezel that match its vintage. Hand-wound Daytonas, with their numerous components, can have their value significantly altered if even one part is replaced. That is why the appearance of such a consistent piece on the market carries considerable significance.

While the luminous material is known to flake off easily, this piece retains all of its original luminous material. The dial shows no noticeable damage even under a loupe. The case is unpolished. The substantial heft of the solid gold remains, and if you trace your finger along the edge of the case back, you can feel the sharp edges. The movement bears the B engraving, signifying solid gold. The serial number begins with 7, and the inner case back engraving is 6263—all correct specifications for this era.

The dial is so perfect that the term "vintage" almost feels out of place. The tight bracelet shows a reddish patina, reminding us that this piece is indeed vintage.

The bracelet is also 18K rivet style. This bracelet alone would be highly sought after by many collectors. Finding a hand-wound Daytona with such a high level of condition and consistency is extremely rare.

This is not a watch that loudly asserts itself. However, for those who understand how to make choices based on their own aesthetic judgment—whether it be for cars, clothes, or homes—there are few watches that speak so eloquently on the wrist. In the brief moment it peeks out from a cuff, it truly communicates to those who know—this is a unique piece that we highly recommend to those who appreciate that kind of luxury.
