14K GF MERITUS GILT DIAL
This is a 14K GF OYSTER PERPETUAL, said to have been manufactured primarily in the United States.
This particular model features the MERITUS name, and was reportedly sold only in North America.
MERITUS is Latin for "merit" or "a worthy person," but the specific pet name's origin is unclear.
It appears to have been seen sporadically between 1954 and 1957, but in very limited numbers.
This is a rare GILT dial (mirror dial) even among MERITUS models.
While it's a cool model simply because it's gold on black, it is actually quite rare.
The OYSTER PERPETUAL, encased in a gold-filled case with a thick 50-micron coating, has a softer luster than solid gold, making it suitable for natural wear.
While many 14K GF pieces are found without their bracelets, examples with the original bracelet are valuable.
A rare combination of a GF case and a mirror dial.
We look forward to your inquiries.
