Ref. 6564 – Honeycomb

The 34mm Oyster is a specialty of our store, AFTER. Its broad appeal has been highlighted in HODINKEE Magazine in the past. However, unlike Rolex's sports models, this genre doesn't always offer many obvious detail differences or compelling models.

Against this backdrop, we're introducing two Ref. 6564 models, one in 14k yellow gold and the other in stainless steel. These are 1950s Oyster Perpetuals, predecessors to the relatively more common Ref. 1002. While there are many variations of the Ref. 6564, these are special models with particularly striking faces.

The indices feature the so-called "Explorer design" at 3-6-9. This alone is a very popular detail, but in addition, the dial is a honeycomb pattern.

As we've previously introduced a Honeycomb Air-King, honeycomb dials are among the most sought-after, regardless of the model. The sharp, refined impression felt on this dial is unique to honeycomb, but good examples are extremely rare. Even rarer are those with beautiful patination.

Furthermore, examining each component reveals impeccable originality: Dolphin hands for the hour and minute, a blued steel second hand, and a crown with a plus sign.

For established collectors who have primarily focused on sports models, 34mm Rolex watches like the Ref. 6564 might be a genre they haven't had a chance to consider before.

However, their size offers a comfortable fit on the wrist and a unique sense of compactness that can be enjoyed by everyone from beginners to connoisseurs. This is precisely a new kind of vintage, available now.
