We've introduced several models from EYEVAN 7285 so far, but this time, we wanted to particularly focus on the brand's iconic original parts. Therefore, we've selected an iconic model from the 2024 SS collection.
Just as there are masterpieces in the worlds of cars and watches, there are also models in the world of eyewear that are called masterpieces. The original inspiration for the Model 352 we are introducing this time is the FDR, named after the president of the time. It is undeniably a masterpiece in the world of American vintage eyewear.
The original FDR is certainly an eye-catching piece, characterized by three dots, a flat top line, and impressively wide temples. However, if one were to actually want to wear this masterpiece, the original is too rare to be practical, and a mere reproduction would honestly lack appeal.
The Model 352 was released at a time when we were thinking that it would be acceptable to wear an FDR if it were re-envisioned in a modern way using 7285 parts. We introduce this new model, where respect for the original and original interpretation coexist.
The flat top line, a characteristic of the FDR, remains, but with a subtle curve added, typical of 7285. It's a design characteristic of EYEVAN 7285 that blends naturally with the wearer's face, without the glasses themselves being too prominent.
While the shape and size are faithful to the original FDR, its details hide an elaborate approach that only EYEVAN 7285 can achieve.
The front rivets, expressed with three dots in the FDR, have been changed to vertical sun platinum rivets in Model 352. These parts are one of EYEVAN 7285's iconic components, and they are not merely decorative; they penetrate through to the back, firmly securing the hinges.
Sun platinum is an extremely hard material that is difficult to process, but through careful polishing, it is finished to integrate seamlessly with the surface of the frame.
The temple rivets, like the original, feature three dots, but upon closer inspection, one pin is of a different thickness, creating a unique "2+1 dot" structure characteristic of EYEVAN 7285. This allows for a more compact design of the parts on the back of the hinge.
All three dots of the original were of the same thickness, and the back of the hinge was plump and bulging. This is certainly one of the charming details of vintage eyewear, but it doesn't necessarily possess modern sophistication.
This is where EYEVAN 7285's philosophy of transcending the original with modern technology and design, inspired by vintage, can be seen.
At the joint where the front and temples meet, an original metal fitting is inserted. This not only prevents the temples from spreading sideways with use but also greatly expands the range of design possibilities. The edge of the joint has delicate engraving only on the temple side.
Furthermore, this hinge has a significant feature not only in its riveting method but also in its reverse side design.
The structure, which creates strength by layering gold parts on a silver base, is inspired by the zippers of vintage MA-1 flight jackets. EYEVAN 7285 refers to this as a military hinge, and it is used in many other models. It is characteristic of EYEVAN 7285 to draw inspiration directly from various design sources, not limited to eyewear.
Moreover, the nose pads are completely original. Unlike the front-integrated nose pads often seen in vintage eyewear, which don't necessarily fit everyone's nose bridge, and unlike cringing pads, which allow for flexible adjustment but have large, conspicuous screws that detract from the aesthetics, this design features a unique and original structure not found elsewhere.
By producing nose pads from titanium using original molds and fixing them without screws, it has become possible to achieve both adjustability for a wide range of nose bridges and a beautiful, sophisticated design from every angle.
Model 352 embodies EYEVAN 7285's approach of not merely reproducing vintage designs but transcending the original with modern concepts and approaches, manifested through iconic brand parts and an undeniable historical masterpiece. Please come and see it in person at our store.
This time at AFTER, we have a selection of both sunglass and eyeglass frame models.
The sunglasses, in particular, feature top-quality glass lenses with a shallow curve and original colors. Original glass lenses require large production lots and higher unit costs, so no other brand goes to the trouble of producing them.
