The recent exhibition for EYEVAN 7285 and 10 eyevan, held in a certain location in Tokyo, unveiled new collections for SPRING/SUMMER 2025 that fully express the essence of each brand.
From 10 eyevan, the first collection's STANDARD series introduces FAT PLATING as a new surface treatment, and the fourth collection's IV SIRMONT series adds BR (BOLD RIM) for a more substantial presence.
This time, as a preview before delivery to stores, we bring you an introduction to the new products, incorporating insights from the design team at the exhibition.
FAT PLATING from Standard Series
Eyewear, by its nature as a vision correction device, is made with more durable materials and designs compared to clothing, so there isn't always much room to enjoy its aging over time.
The newly announced FAT PLATING collection focuses on this aspect, designed to allow for rich aging. Similar to leather, linen, and denim, it allows wearers to enjoy changes that occur through contact with the body. It features an even thicker plating of 6μm—thicker than standard heavy plating—available in both Silver 1000 and 24-karat gold.
Silver 1000, known in the metal industry as "dry white," has a distinctive crisp white tone unlike the typical silver color of eyewear. Designer Nakagawa says this color expresses a unique worldview, quiet yet distinctly individual, that hasn't been seen before.
Furthermore, Silver 1000 offers three different variations in surface treatment. SILVER-MIRROR, with the luster unique to pure silver; SILVER-SHARING, meticulously textured by artisans using files; and SILVER-SMOKED, which faithfully reproduces the aged changes that occur with wear. These three surface treatments, developed exclusively for 10 eyevan, can be likened to rigid, chemical wash, and distressed denim.
The 24-karat gold, strictly speaking, uses an original blend of 23.7-karat gold, resulting in a unique shade with a subtle depth. This special blend is not used in 10 eyevan's regular line.
These plating processes are extremely labor-intensive, and among the already limited number of plating factories, only one in Japan can handle pure silver plating.
While various combinations of frame materials and surface treatments are possible, the combination of a titanium body, made possible by exceptional technology, and high-purity FAT PLATING offers the ultimate solution for the concept of enjoying age-related changes.
BR from IV Sirmont Series
BR (BOLD RIM) was already part of the III CELLULOID series within 10 eyevan. This design features a generous volume throughout the frame, creating a substantial presence, and was previously only available for a select few lens shapes within 10 eyevan.
Now, BR has been newly added to the IV SIRMONT series. The brow features specially selected 6mm thick celluloid, and the titanium rim, a special part from the first collection, has been thickened from the usual 1mm to 1.4mm to match the extra-thick brow.
Of course, by using thicker parts for the bridge and temples as well, a new model with excellent overall strength balance has been created.
Furthermore, the sunglasses model is equipped with a special glass lens, a first for 10 eyevan.
This lens was created by an Osaka-based glass manufacturer founded in the 1940s. When asked the company president, "What is your favorite lens you've ever worked on?", he mentioned a lens developed by an American eyewear manufacturer that delivers light wavelengths highly compatible with the human eye.
With the president's generosity, as he believes "10 eyevan is the best eyewear in the world," this lens was reproduced with a 2-curve, double-sided multi-coating and named G3.
Although the lens appears green, when worn, the field of vision isn't drastically colored. And thanks to the double-sided multi-coating, the eyes are visible from the outside, preventing an overly intimidating look. Designer Nakagawa also says it’s a classic yet modern and cool look.
Both new models added to 10 eyevan can be said to embody the brand's concept of "beautiful tools" at a higher dimension. All details, from the plating and lenses to the titanium rim wire, are elements that could only be handled by 10 eyevan.
The 2025 S/S collection is scheduled for release, with FAT PLATING in December and the BR IV series in March 2025. Please look forward to it.
